Audience:  The type of audience for this report is going to be a general audience because of the type of technical document chosen.

Borrowed Style/Conventions/Genre:  This document be be in a video format that takes the style of a action movie.

Ways in which your project takes issues of audience into consideration:

The video will be a simple demonstation of how to connect an HDTV that will be very simple to follow. Also questions will be asked during this video that may be related to what the audience may whan to know.

Guide To Building your PC

The project that i will be doing is to construct a manual that explains how to build your own PC other than just buying one from a major company or store. A lot of store computers are build for the general public and may include additional hardware and software that u would not normally use or want on your PC. Building your own PC means build and put exactly what u want and need.

There are a lot of manuals in the form of videos, blogs, and even books that covers this topic. Each one of these are missing one thing or another that a novice would not know or understand. The writers write their manuals as if u already have an understanding of what to do and not to do when u are building a PC. Building your own PC with Hardware that u only want may even save u more money. In general there is not a lot of manuals out there for building your own PC that’s in the form of a actual book or manual. They are mostly in the form of blog post or posted on websites . Most of these manuals also are not appealing to the readers, they offer little or no pictures of any kind that can make it easy for us to understand what we are suppose to do or where should we placed a particular part.

In this article The writer start off by telling it’s reader that PC building can be a daunting task and what it takes to build a PC which is patients. The writer here prepared the reader of what’s ahead. This is a good thing but the writer did not explain more in terms of what the reader should expect or make the reader feel confident in building their own PC. The outline of the article is fairly good. The article is consisted of mostly text and little pictures of some of the hardware. The writer separates each important part of the PC building process into different sections. For example one section explaining the basic of the hardware of a PC. At the end of each section he listed links to guides in choosing the best hardware which is a good but most of the hardware listed are outdated or old, there are newer hardware available. The problem with this article is that it outlines what is needed and where to find the best parts for the best price but it did not explain how to actually build the PC once the reader has obtained all the required parts.

Technology knowledge A guide to Building your own PC

The outline of this article is very good. The writer didn’t give an excellent introduction on why is it better to build a PC rather than buying one and also what to expect throughout the building process. The writer here again categorized the different sections of the PC building process which is always a good way of showing what needs to be done. The writer used detailed pictures that shows some of the hardware part required but nor all. Since our readers may be new to this is it recommended to show detailed pictures of each part. Unlike the previous article the writer here uses new hardware instead of old ones. The problem with this article is that the writer did not introduce the readers to the hardware in details which would help the reader in choosing their hardware parts a little easier. Overall the article was fairly good but finishing some important parts.

Tom’s hardware Building your own PC

Tom’s hardware always have excellent articles with easy to navigate quick links at the bottom of each page. They usually have detailed instructions and pictures. The article they did on how to build a PC was only based on the hardware that they decided to use in writing the article. They did not have give the reader any choice of what they wanted to build.

My goal is to write a manual that would be friendly to the novice builders. it would include detailed instructions, a background of building computers, etc. It would also include pictures screenshots of websites if any, and maybe videos that will help the reader to follow along effectively and quickly.

Project

The Winning Team

Every team  did well  with their presentations. Team 3 was  outstanding. They did an excellent presentation on Accessing and Distributing  Movies This Group followed the guidelines that make for an excellent presentation. Their presentation was short and simple and communicated effectively their main points to the audience. Some of the factors that  contributed to this assessment  are their use of  screen shots and websites to accommodate their notes. This group also  did excellently on their public speaking and general method of relaying their information through good eye contact to catch and maintain interest. . The group also responded effectively to the questions that were asked from both the audience and the professor. They showed confidence  and presented themselves as experts on their subject.

These are the reason why team 3 is the winner. They did an excellent presentation.

Class Project Presentation

Group 1

Group 1 project is about game site that offer help and tips to gamers that are stuck on a particular game. The group explained using links to the websites and screenshot how the site does this.

Overall the group explained each website effectively.

Group 2

Group 2 did a presentation on digg.com. they explain how the website and it’s members come together to talk or solved any problem presented to them

overall the presentation was good and they responed to the professor’s question professionally.

Presentation could have been a little longer. but still effective in bring across their topic.

Group 3

Group 3 did an excellent prsentation about torrents and sharing websites which is a hot topic today.

They explained really well how torrent are being used to share media.

Group 4

group 4 did a presentation on websites that provides movies to it’s users free of charge.

The group did a good explaination of the websites and how u use it to watched movies for free.

Group 5.

Group 5 did a presentation on computers communicating together. This topic interest me a lot. they explained the topic really good . Overall it was a good project.

Group 6.

Good prsentatation on mobile phones. could have been a little longer .

CNET has all things Technical

Cnet.com is the home for the lastest cell phones, cameras, mp3 players, laptops, etc. Cnet does not only provide you will the latest gadgets but gives reviews of them. These  reviews could be in text or even a video demonstration of how the product works and performs. Cnet tv is another great addition to cnet that hosts numerous videos of products reviews and demonstrations. These videos can be accessed from any cellphones, ipods or it is available as a RSS video feed or podcast. Cnet also has  a download page in which it hosts many different applications that you can try out before you buy. A Change is Coming to Technical Writing

According to the Horizon report of 2009, mobile phones are getting more advanced. They have the ability to store large amount of data in the gigabytes, they can store its user’s photos, videos, calenders, etc. Mobiles phone are also improving in the processor department. They are now equipped with a powerful enough processor that can be used to run applications that are both fun , useful and help us to keep up to date with information off the net. It is predicted that by the year 2020, mobiles Phones will replace our Home PC and even our laptop. The questions is how would this change technical writing and the way it is being delivered to the masses. It surely changes the way we access a articles being written on a technical subject.. Access is more faster and require nothing  more than reaching in to your pocket and using the search bar and keyboard on your phone. It is so easy that it posing a problem for colleges and highschool. Students  now have a new way of cheating using their phones to look up answers to a test question off the net. Anyone can look up an article on a technical subject anywhere and anytime they want.  For example, the new iphone and it’s app’s store. The App  Store which is short for Apllication is now home for many useful and fun Apllications. One of these is called Shazaam which gives you info ( artists names, song titles and where to purchase it) abouta song that is playing on a radio or nearby, you can have to hold the phone close to the song’s source. Applications like these will change the way we view and access information. Mobile phone are changing everyday, They already play an inportant part in our work and play and will soon be a part of our life in a more useful way in bringing  information to us.

Driving lessons from Your Mobile Phone.

We already see what a phone can do today, from guiding us to a unknow location safely(GPS) , to bringing us  closer as possible to the web. The mobile phone does it all. Now, it may even teach us about our car.This could be done through a simple ebook that we download off the net, or  a detailed video which shows us step by step what we need to know. New cars are somewhat complicated to operatefor those whose cars  is a 90’s model. Task like working the GPS, finding where to put in the cd or knowing if  it even play a cd anymore? since ipods are the new thing, and cds are of the past, A detailed video from your mobile phone can teach you all this . It can even direct you to websites which may give you additional informatio. For example, where to buy a ipod for your car or even to find the nearest auto shop if you need to buy something for your carThere is even a way to unlock your car using your cell phone,  if you got locked out by doing this. . Car companies are now thinking of putting phones into their cars or maybe a phone dock to use your exsisting phone in the car. Audi is currently planning to do this. The Mobile phone sure is useful. Who wants to read a complicated maunal anyway?

What is Technical writing?

The Wikipedia article on technical writing defines technical writing as :

“a form of technical communication, is a style of formal writing, used in fields as diverse as computer hardware and software, chemistry the aerospace industry robotics, finance,consumer electronic, and biotechnology”

An another websites, The Free Dictionary writing as:

“The description of scientific and computer-related activities. When technical writing is done to explain a concept “clearly” to the non-technical person, it is one of the most difficult writing tasks a person can undertake.”

lastly, NumberNut defines technical writing as:

“a style of writing used to describe, explain, or defend a mathematical idea, reasoning, or process.”

These three definitions all discuss basically  the same thing, which isthat technical writing is a form of explaining a technical subject to the reader.

There are websites that offer information about technical writing and which also help anyone to become a technical writer.

nSight is a website that offer experienced technical writers to write articles, documents on any subject desired.

Klariti is a website that is dedicated to providing it’s users with tips, trick, tutorials and downloads about technical writing.

Online Technical Writing gives free courses in technical writing.

In my own words, technical writing is the means of providing “how to instructions” to anyone who is a novice about a technical subject. Technical writing can be found in manual, blogs, online forums, etc.
